The Sabbath Was Made For Man, Not Man For The Sabbath

Jesus tells us He is Lord of the Sabbath. His teachings regarding the observance of the 7th day Sabbath get us back to the original intent for the Sabbath... a day of rest and rejuvenation, spiritual instruction, and time with our Creator. The Sabbath day was made for the benefit of human beings.

The basics of the 4th commandment is to do not work and keep the day holy. The instruction on resting from work is a blessing of physical restoration. But there is more to the Sabbath than rest from work. We are also to keep the day holy. Keeping the day holy means to set it aside for a Godly purpose. Leviticus 23:3 explains that Godly purpose as a day of holy assembly [or holy convocation in the KJV]. The holy assembly is God's plan for our spiritual instruction. When we gather to hear His word read to us, explained, along with guidance on how to apply it. These are two ways the Sabbath is made for mankind's blessing.
