How To Use Scripture Lists

Scripture lists are a simple low intensity way to get your self immersed in your bible. These scripture lists gather the relevant verses about a given topic. These lists are from a book called Bible Topical Index. The book was compiled by a minister in the United Church of God. Copies of these books were distributed to all the elders of the church at the GCE. The excerpts provided are from the NKJV.

Ideas on how you might use these:

1. Read each verse in your bible
2. Read each verse in at least 3 different translations
a) New King James Version - word for word
b) New International Version - thought for thought (also ESV)
c) Good News Bible - paraphrase
3. Write each of these verses out with pen or pencil in a notebook
4. Divide your page in half to create 2 columns. In one column write the verse in the other write down some of your own thoughts about the verse.
5. Read the verses before and after the verse given in the list.
a) What is the context?
b) Is the thought meant to address a particular problem?
c) Is it used to bolster a teaching or doctrine?
d) Do different versions handle the verse differently? Why so you suppose they did?
e) [hint: these could be the notes you put in column 2]
